How I got started…

Last night I was in my basement organizing, re-packing, going through boxes that have been packed for years to condense the amount of stuff (aka spring cleaning). In my process I found several of my sketch books from college. Looking through page by page all the of the pencil sketches, drawings, doodles, class assignments, notes on projects and so much more it shocked me to realize that I wasn’t too bad of an artist. I have been drawing and doodling all through out childhood on church bulletins, summer camp papers, and random pieces of paper. But I stopped drawing about 2 years after college. I had an amazing dream of a job, but the amount of pressure and stress that came with the job caused my confidence to plummet to nearly rock bottom. I stopped drawing and didn’t look back… for years.

Fast-forward about 6 years later I found myself working as a junior graphic designer for another company. The senior graphic designer (Ross) is an amazing illustrator. Every October he would take part (via facebook) in a group called Inktober. Where artists all over the world would draw one ink drawing every day for the month of October. Ross encouraged me to join and do it too, but I shied away from it. But finally after a couple years I decided to give it a try October 2013. Since then I have participated in every Inktober. Sometimes not able to draw something each day, but doing my best. From there I have grown and my skills have improved to now I am drawing weekly.
