Cupcake Decorating for Mom's Birthday
In my previous post I mentioned that I made Italian Cream Cake Cupcakes for dessert... after a super tasty dinner of Crab Cakes! I'll post the recipe for the Italian Cream Cake soon, but meanwhile here are some tips on how to decorate cupcakes for any occasion!
For these cupcakes I used regualar semi-sweet chocolate chips. I heated them in a double boiler (a pot of water then you put the chips in another pot and that pot sits in the hot water). Once the chocolate was melted I transfered it to a plastic bag (small one like one for sandwiches).
I then had a baking sheet lined with wax paper. I cut the tip off of the plastic bag like you do if you were going to frost something. Then I proceeded to draw out hearts, swirls, wrote words 'mom' and such things. When I ran out of chocoate or was done I put the baking sheet in the freezer.
After about 5 to 10 minutes in the freezer the chocolate designs were really hard, but still be super careful getting them off the wax paper. Put them directly on to your cupcakes! Done!
